4 Things To Do Upon Hearing the Adhan
Knowledge
Adhan (call to prayers) is an invitation to a meeting with Allah (SWT) through Salah. Adhan is what reminds a believer of their duties in this world and enforces the connection between Salah and one's accomplishment in this world and the hereafter. Salah helps us repent for our wrongdoings and is a great means of attaining the blessings of Allah.
Here are the 4 things that you should do upon hearing Adhan:
1. Repeat the Adhan
Allah (SWT) bestows great rewards on those who repeat Adhan after the Mue’zzin. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:
“When you hear the adhan, repeat what the Mu’adhin says.” (Imam Malik – Muwatta)
2. Send Blessings to Prophet Muhammad (SAW)
Repeating the Adhan not only makes one get the blessings of Allah but also ensures that the believer sends blessings to our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said:
“When you hear the Mu’azzin calling for the prayer, repeat his words then ask Allah’s blessings upon me, because the one who asks Allah’s blessings upon me once will be rewarded ten blessings by Allah.” (Muslim, The Book of Prayer, Hadith 384)
3. After the Adhan, recite Dua
Reciting the following Dua after Adhan has great significance:
“O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and established prayer. Grant Muhammad the intercession and favor, and raise him to the honored station You have promised him, [verily You do not neglect promises].” (Al-Bukhari 1:152)

4. Make Dua in between the Adhan and Iqamah
Ask anything from Allah (SWT) during this time as this is the time of Baraqah and Allah (SWT) answers one’s prayers. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said:
“Repeat the words of the Muadhin and when you finish, ask Allah what you want and you will get it” (Abu Dawud, The Book of Prayer, Hadith 524)
Adhan serves as a constant reminder for believers like us to remember Allah (SAW). It is also a reminder that He is always there for us, in all our good and bad times. There is nobody else to turn to but Allah (SWT).
May Allah (SWT) make us consistent in this practice of repeating Adhan and also in performing prayers on the designated times. Ameen.
